Mahabharata: The Ballet. A divine celebration of Womanhood
Cultural program conceptualised and created by Pt. Tanmoy Bose with FREED with the support of Alliance française du Bengale & Kolkata International Women Club (KIWC).

Capture d’écran 2016-02-04 à 10.12.56 Mahabharata : The Ballet, is a contemporary representation where it comes alive in the perfect blend of music, fashion and dance. In the performance, the characters come alive as a blend of dance movements with tradition designer Baluchari fabric and jewelry from Bishnupur as a part of the choreography. The performance will be a unique presentation through audio visual interpretation of the episodes of Kach Debjani, Karna Kunti, Draupadi, Shakuntala, Gandhari, Brihannala and Hirimba. Seven change agents from the epic shall portray the strength, vigour, leadership, rights, freedom, emancipation and empowerment through dance, drama and enriched music. The characters will be draped in traditional Baluchori fabric, a treasure from beautiful Bishunupur, a living heritage. The weavings and designs of the Baluchori silk textiles has evolved over the past 500 years with pictures of the great epic weaved on pure silk. The magic textile from Bengal, Muslin will be used as the base fabric for the dancers. The efforts of leading designers including Ms. Agnimitra Paul in collaboration with the traditional weavers will create the magic costumes for the epic heroines. Capture d’écran 2016-02-04 à 10.12.42
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

1. Darbari-Jhumur: A folk song of Bankura-Purulia region, of which Bishnupur is a part, to begin the evening in the traditional Bishnupur durbar style of the Malla Kings.
