Alliance française du Bengale is celebrating its diamond jubilee on the 18th of December 2015 for its 75th year of existence in Kolkata!
Created in 1940 we were known, at first, as the Alliance française de Calcutta and renamed (in 2007) the Alliance française du Bengale in order to cover not only the capital but the entire territory of West Bengal as well.
In 1999 a fire ravaged the century-old building of Park Mansions on Park Street and the Alliance française had to be relocated in Beck Bagan in two different building, before going back to Park Street sixteen years later in 2015.
1940 The Alliance française de Calcutta is founded at 19 and 24 Park Mansions, 57/A Park Street.
1999 A fire ravaged the century-old building. Alliance française is located in two buildings: Khaleel Munzil, 217 A.J.C. Bose Road and 3 West Range.
2005 A new Society, The French Association, is created replacing the Alliance française de Calcutta.
2007 The French Association is renamed and becomes the Alliance française du Bengale.
2015 The Alliance française du Bengale goes back to its original building on Park Streets where it was founded in 1940.
