Laurent Couson

The Alliance française du Bengale cordially invites you to a concert by the French pianist Laurent Couson on Tuesday 20 January at 6.30 pm at the Calcutta School of Music.

Laurent Couson has had a solid experience as  composer, arranger, writer, pianist and musical director.

After winning major awards at the Conservatoire of Music and Musicology Faculty of Tours (Central France), then at the National Conservatoire of Paris, he worked extensively as a composer for Radio France. His compositions were performed at Salle Pleyel, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Théâtre de la Ville and Carnegie Hall.

In the following years, Laurent worked as a pianist and arranger for numerous prominent French musicians in the domains of  jazz and popular music. He performed or recorded together with many outstanding musicians as among others Quincy Jones, Dee Dee Bridgewater.

As a band conductor, he directed the opera orchestras of Paris, Montpellier, Dresde, Avignon, Toulon, Rouen, Massy and Cannes. He was elected Chairmain of the Wood Instruments Ensemble of Paris, and taught history of music and orchestration at the CMDL (Didier Lockwood’s Music Centre).

He signed the music for a number of advertising spots and major motion pictures, including the scores written for Claude Lelouch’s trilogy “Le genre humain” (Mankind) and standalone drama “Ces Amours Là” (What love may bring).

With a solid background behind him, Laurent became specialized in Musical Theatre, for which he wrote and directed a number of scores, including his most successful show “Anges et Démons” (Angels and Demons) that received an ovation from the critics. With years, he has revealed a parallel talent as a playwright.

He has also been noticed as a prominent cinema actor, including the lead role in Claude Lelouch’s latest motion picture “Ces Amours là”.
