The Musée Nicéphore Niépce

It’s been two hundred years since inventor Nicéphore Niépce developed the first known photograph. France keeps alive the spirit of innovation in photography by way of Out of the Frame. On this occasion, we celebrate this milestone through a selection of exhibitions and events.

All over India, indoor and outdoor exhibitions of historic photographs from the Niepce museum’s digital collections showcase the rich heritage of French archives.

Out of the Frame

A selection of 40 patrimonial photographs from the digitized public database of the Niépce Museum will be presented in the hall of Alliance française du Bengale from the 17th to the 25th of February. The pictures will be displayed all day from 9 am to 6:30 pm.

Caption This Photo Contest

The Night of Ideas is a global event that takes place every year in January. People from all over the world are invited to participate in the exchange of philosophies and ideas that are all based on a special theme. The theme for 2018 is L’Imagination au Pouvoir – Power to Imagination 

Taking inspiration from the same, Alliance française du Bengale invites students of the French language to explore their imagination, in the form of a Caption This Photo contest. 

The Golden Rules:

1. Choose one of the photos that will be displayed on our TV screen during the exhibition.

2. Write a caption. Don’t forget to mention the serial number of your photo- refer to the gallery below for the same

3. Write a small text- a story, a limerick, a haiku, a dialogue- based on your choice of photo. Feel free to leave us a little drawing- a sketch, a doodle- to help illustrate your writing!

4. All captions and texts should be in French, submissions in English will be disqualified.

How does one participate?

Drop by Alliance Française between the 17th and the 25th to get yourself registered!

We will provide you with paper to write your captions and texts; your entries will be put into the letter box at the exhibition, to be reviewed by our judges.

The Prize

A student from each level, namely -A1, A2, B1 and B2+ -will be offered a discount coupon of INR 1000 that they may avail on the next session of French classes! Results will be announced on our Facebook and Instagram handles after the 5th of March, follow our page to stay updated.
