A scientifically grounded approach to early language acquisition

Little Francophone is designed around key principles from early childhood development and language acquisition research. At this age, children possess what is often referred to as the absorbent mind—a natural ability to internalize sounds, rhythms, and structures of language through exposure rather than formal instruction.

Our program leverages this critical window through immersive, sensory-rich experiences, rather than traditional academic learning.

Key Pedagogical Principles

1. Montessori-inspired learning
Children learn through exploration, autonomy, and hands-on activities adapted to their developmental stage.

2. Vertical pedagogy (mixed groups)
No fixed levels: beginners and more experienced children learn together.
This encourages:

  • Natural peer learning
  • Confidence-building through observation and imitation
  • Individual progression at each child’s pace

3. Guided immersion approach
French is naturally introduced as the main language of interaction through songs, stories and play.
Teachers provide gentle support in English when needed, ensuring that every child feels comfortable, engaged and confident throughout the session.

There is no formal writing at this stage.
Occasional tracing or copying of simple words may be introduced solely to support fine motor skills.

  • Acquire basic vocabulary and expressions
  • Gain confidence in understanding and responding to French
  • Build a positive emotional connection with the language
