First celebrated in Paris 1982, Fête de la Musique or World Music Day is the first all-day musical celebration on the day of the summer solstice, originated by the French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang and Maurice Fleuret.
On this musical occasion, Alliance française du Bengale in association Siddha Foundation, Calcutta Classical Guitar Society, Sienna Cafe Park Street and littlei gears up to host a week long celebration.
14th June: The Fifth Harmony
Hindi & Bengali songs we love fronted by Akash Dasgupta the band features music on violin, cajon, bass, guitars and voice.
15th June: Kolkatar Gaanwala
Recent winners of the Radio Mirchi Soundcheck Champion award for best band, this group of young musicians have consider the folk and popular influences from the city as a base for creating their own soundscape.
17th June: Varun Desai aka 5volts
The evening will be a presentation on Electric Music by Varun Desai aka. 5volts.
18th June: Mondegreen
Contemporary and original, this trio is lead by Nabanita Sarkar whose acoustic folk has international indie vibe.
19th June: Calcutta Classical Guitar Society
CCGS Ensemble Guitar works from the western classical music tradition, this concert by Kolkata’s finest young guitarists includes mostly solos pieces but will end in a big ensemble of 12 guitars on stage.

Projjwal & Friends
Projjwal writes original songs in the tradition of Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan.
The Miliputs
Sharoni Poddar (Mili) fronts this young group. The Miliputs is a folk band with new age musical arrangements. They are true to the traditions but can also make you dance with their grooves.
