Synopsis
Premjish is working as Director-Outreach at Art1st Foundation, he is also a recipient of the Art Scribe Award that invited him for a residency in Château de La Napoule, Mandelieu-La Napoule.
Art1st Foundation is organising a series of roundtables on art education called AER 2019. Art Education Roundtables 2019 brings together the diverse and experienced voices from the field of arts, cinema, performance, literature, activism, pedagogy, policy making, etc., to not only address the crisis in arts education but also to propose newer directions and collectively put together a vision for the future of art education in India. These series of roundtables will happen in different parts of India and will lead to an annual seminar on art education in Delhi during December 2019.
Art1st’s core concern is about the art education in schools. Though the experts who will be speaking in these roundtables will be from the wider fields of experience such as curation, art history, art practice, art pedagogy, film making, performance, etc. Their research and interventions will help us a great deal to prepare a new model for the art education in the school level. The roundtables will offer the participants the opportunity to have a dynamic interaction with these experts. It will also allow us to foreground the relevance of arts education at the school level. These roundtables will provide opportunities for exchange between diverse stake holders and the policy makers. Therefore, it is important for school principals, curators, critics, art departments, art students, artists, and teachers, to attend these roundtables and initiate an active discussion in this area.
After a first roundtable session organised in Delhi on 30th March 2019, the organisers will be taking this project to Kolkata on April 26, 2019).
