Rules & Regulations
Please note that the rules and regulations are the same for everyone. Every type of member (internal students of AFdb, staff, teachers, committee members and external members of the library) has to abide by these rules.
Borrowing procedures for offline library at AFdB
- Only individuals holding a valid library membership may avail of services offered by the Alliance française du Bengale (AFdB) Médiathèque. Library members need to present their membership card to borrow documents from the library.
- Outside library hours (Monday to Friday, 11 am to 6 pm ; Saturday 10 am to 6 pm), books can not be issued or returned.
- One can borrow a maximum of 3 books for a duration of three weeks.
- The books can be renewed only once for another three weeks. (The date of renewal must be ON and BY the initial date of return.)
- In absence of the Librarian, one has to borrow/return books from/to the reception.
- While returning a book, one must sign on the Library Maintenance Book.
- While borrowing any book from the library, one has to write his/her name and other details on the Library Maintenance Book.
- Library materials must not be taken out of the library unless a Library staff has properly issued them. Mutilation and theft of library materials are offenses punishable by law. Strong action will be taken if any unethical activities get caught.
- If the book borrowed is not returned within the given date, one reminder mail will be sent. A fine of Rs. 100 per book will be applied for each month of delay, starting from the second week of delay. If the book was to be returned on Monday 8th of January and it is returned…
- …on 10th of January, no fine will be applied.
- …between the 15th of January and the 7th of February, a fine of Rs. 100 will be applied.
- …between the 8th of February and the 7th of March, a fine of Rs. 200 will be applied.
- …between the 8th of March and 7th of April, a fine of Rs. 300 will be applied.
- The fine has to be paid at the reception through digital payment or online transfer.
- No new books will be issued to members if books have not been returned.
- If a book is not returned within 3 months after the date of return, it will be considered as lost and the member will be asked to pay a compensation for the lost book. The compensation will be equivalent to 75 % of the initial price of the book. If he/she fails to comply within one month, his/her membership will be suspended.
- Students who have not returned library books will not be granted admission into higher levels.
- Members will have to reimburse the cost of any book damaged or lost by them.
- Members will be held responsible for any mutilation including defacement found in library materials when returned. They must check and report any mutilation found at the time of issuing the book.
- Library books and documents must be handled with care and be treated with respect: It is prohibited to underline, write notes or pull out pages.
- Any document on loan with a member can be recalled by the Library at any time.
- Copyright: Documents in the library are subject to copyright. Photocopying of a book is strictly prohibited. Copying any other documents (CD, DVD…) is strictly prohibited.
- Any change of address and/or change in contact details should be immediately notified to the librarian.
General Rules to be maintained at the library
- Silence is to be observed at all times in the library and mobile phones are to be switched off or placed on silent mode.
- Smoking, drinking, eating, use of mobile phones, personal audio equipment, cameras is strictly prohibited in the Library.
- The library is meant for reading, working, watching or listening to documents in the French language. Members using the Library premises for any other purpose will be asked to leave.
- The library staff is authorized to evict any member who does not abide by the rules of the AF Médiathèque or who misbehaves with staff or members in any way.
- Members are expected to take care of their personal belongings. AFdB will not be held responsible for the loss of any item on its premises.
- All books and personal belongings must be shown to the staff at the library exits whenever required to do so.
- The library staff has the right to ask a non-member to leave the library.
As the present rules & regulations are an integral part of Alliance française du Bengale, by registering the member agrees to abide by these regulations.
