Exploring the Depths of Paul Celan’s Poetry at the Kolkata Book Fair 2025 ✨

Step into the evocative world of Paul Celan, one of the most profound voices of 20th-century German poetry, as Goethe-Institut Kolkata and Alliance Française du Bengale jointly celebrate the first Indian publication of his selected poetry and letters in Bengali translation. This special event at the Germany Pavilion will bring together poets, translators, and literary scholars for an immersive discussion on Celan’s intricate landscapes of memory, language, and meaning.

Date: 3rd February 2025
Time: 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Venue: Germany Pavilion, Boimela Prangon, Salt Lake (Event Space)

Guided by the expertise of Dr. Bertrand Badiou, editor of Celan’s works (Professor-Researcher & Director of Paul Celan Research Unit at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, and Subroto Saha, the translator of this new Bengali edition, the conversation will unfold under the insightful moderation of Iryna Vikyrchak, a Ukrainian poet and cultural scholar. Adding to the dialogue, Nabanita Saha will bridge linguistic nuances as the French interpreter, while Nicolas Facino, Director of Alliance Française du Bengale, will offer reflections on the importance of cross-cultural literary exchanges.

This evening promises to be an exploration of Celan’s poetry as a space of remembrance, resistance, and renewal, where words carve out meaning like caves in time.

Join us in this poetic journey as we traverse the depths of Celan’s world, from Wordcaves to Wordcaves.
