A SLICE OF FRANCE – 9th December 2021

A SLICE OF FRANCE is a part of the Hooghly Heritage Hub project. The focus is the River
Ganges, whose waters presently are loaded with garbage and pollutants.
Alliance française du Bengale and the French Institute in India / Embassy of France in India
with fashion designer-artist Abhishek Dutta collaborated to create a sustainable textile
collection to inspire people to be eco-conscious consumers who think twice before they
discard. The fluidity of the Hooghly inspires the collection as the river flows by the French
colony of Chandannagore in the Hooghly district of West Bengal.
French motifs form an integral part of this collection of handwoven textiles and the
traditional craftsmanship of India, to be showcased on Thursday, 9th December 2021 at the
iconic Kolkata Railway Museum in Howrah. The event includes a fashion show on railway
tracks and alongside the vintage steam engines from a bygone era with Patachitra and Baul
music coordinated by Banglanatak dot com in partnership with the British Council.
