Alliance française du Bengale

Chinmoy Guha is a Professor and former Head of Department of English at the University of Calcutta, an essayist and translator, and a scholar of French language and literature.

On this occasion, Mr. Guha will talk about the outstanding thinkers and Moralists of Seventeenth Century France, notably Blaise Pascal, La Bruyère and La Rochefoucauld.

He will also speak of their ruthless self-search and read exquisite lines from their scintillating texts: Pensées (1660), Maximes (1665) and Les Caractères (1668), all in order to illustrate the humorous light in which they viewed the crises or troubles of life!
