Kolkata is going back to the very roots of cinema!
For the first time in Kolkata on Tuesday 11 August at 7pm we are happy to present Les Mélodies de Nirbaak produced by Abhind Musics, who will perform a ciné concert, The Georges Méliès Series, on four short silent movies of the genius director of the early twentieth century. Those silent short movies are A trip to the Moon, Blue Beard, Joan of Arc & the Kingdom of Fairies.
A ciné concert is basically what was cinema at its very beginning at the time when the movies were silent and there was no sound system at all. Some musicians were performing live the music composed for it in front of the screen with the audience. Whether this type of musical performances is nowadays very popular in the West, it has been almost forgotten in India.
As Les Mélodies de Nirbaak isn’t a band but an entity which components change according to the musicians who are performing, this time it will be composed with Pierre-Antoine Lasnier on bass guitar, Neel Sarkar on guitar and various string instruments, Sushruto Goswami on flute & Pritam Sengupta on percussions and kalimba.
