The Alliance Française du Bengale, in conjunction with the Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival, Harrington Street Arts Centre and Sampark Publishing House, have brought together the work of 9 French photographers, with the aim of displaying their images in both the setting of a gallery, and in the open air in public parks, with the intention of bringing the work to a wider audience. The photographs cover a wide range of subjects, from France to India, from street scenes to landscapes, to portraits; they document tribes in Rajasthan, villages in France, and the pull of the tides; they capture the changing moods of of sea and sky, of human life and experience, and the stillness of empty streets and tombstones, where traces of life linger, but the person has gone. The images are brought togetherby this common thread of humanity, caught in the instant the photographer clicks the button: observed and preserved dans le moment, between earth and sky, and across continents. The exhibition will be on display at The Harrington Street Arts Centre from the 18th-28th of January. It will be inaugurated on the 18th at 11.30a.m by Damien Syed, Consul General of France to Kolkata. The inauguration will be followed by a discussion on the subject of in the moment, with panellists Kunal Basu, Ram Rahman, Alka Pande, and French photographers Anila Gill, Elodie Guignard and Benoit de Vilmorin. The discussion will be moderated by Raju Raman.
