Counsellor on high range jewellery at Cartier since 1982, Olaf Van Cleef is above all an artist who has a passion for India. His style of painting is based on abstract pointillism and tachisme acquired from having often painted just using his fingers. His technique consists in softening the irregular dabs of bright watercolours with multiples dots in white. He also uses metallic paper and Swarovski crystals.

Attracted to India since he was a child (he grew up with Kipling’s Jungle Book), he travelled throughout the country to discover the real India, deep and fascinating as he said. In charge of Cartier mission in India on several occasions between 1989 and 2002, Olaf Van Cleef finally decided to buy the ground floor of a house in Pondicherry and to install an “atelier” in the town where all his work can be seen. It is also a place committed to assist artists and an exclusive space for cultural exchanges.

His work is a reflection of his love for India mixed with his European culture.

On the occasion of this conference and interaction, Mr Olaf Van Cleef will introduce some of his paintings.
