Shumona Sinha, is a French writer from Kolkata who lives in Paris. An alumnus of Alliance Francaise du Bengale, she has a M.Phil degree in French  literature from Sorbonne University and has taught English and French in Parisian high-schools for 14 years.

Her first novel, Fenêtre sur l’abîme, was published in 2008. Her second novel, Assommons les pauvres! (2011), was awarded the Prix du roman populiste 2011 and the Prix Valéry-Larbaud 2012, and her third novel, Calcutta (2014), was awarded the Prix du rayonnement de la langue et de la littérature françaises by the Académie Française and the Grand Prix du Roman of the Société des gens de lettres. Her latest novel, Apatride, appeared in January 2017.She often claims that her homeland is no longer India, nor France, but the French language.

On this occasion, Sinha returns to the Alliance française du Bengale for a literary exchange with the students.
