 WORLD MUSIC DAY 2018

The Fête de la Musique, or World Music Day, is an annual music celebration that takes place all over the world on 21st June.The first all-day musical celebration on the day of the solstice was originated by the French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, and by Maurice Fleuret, and was first celebrated in Paris in 1982. Music Day is now celebrated in 120 countries around the world. On this occasion, we have a series of concerts lined up at our premises and elsewhere in Kolkata from the 15th of June to the 22nd of June.

15th June at 7:00 pm 
Baba Lo-Fi Band: A Session of Avant- Garde Music
The session will feature musical improvisation which will cut across multiple genres by 6 talented and accomplished musicians with a never dying passion for experimentation. The musicians are as follows: Baba Lofi a.k.a. Rit Chatterjee, 5volts a.k.a. Varun Desai, Gaurab Chatterjee (drummer), Bachospati Chakraborty (bassist), Pradip Chatterjee (flautist) and Kaushik Modak (didgeridoo).

Calcutta Social Project Projjwal & Friends 
Projjwal is a singer-songwriter, who takes inspiration from Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and others from the Beat generation. He plays the piano, the guitar and the harmonica. For this concert, we have invited him to collaborate Shayan Sinha (dotara / Bengali folk vocals) and Shayantan (traditional Indian and alternate percussions). This trio presents a very interesting fusion of folk music that integrates elements of Baul music with the blues.
17th June at 6:30 pm 
The Arnab Bhattacharya Quartet
THE ARNAB BHATTACHARYA QUARTET is an instrumental 4-piece band that blends Indian Classical Music with Jazz and Blues with Bass as rhythm. Arnab Bhattacharya – Sarod, Pratiik Karmakar – Guitar, Sunny Sharma – Bass, Srinjoy Ghatak – Guitar.
TABQ performs original music as well as fun covers of songs like the Godfather Theme or Sweet Child of Mine, which when presented with the Sarode as lead, creates an unusual and engaging soundscape.
18th June at 6:30 pm 
Calcutta Classical Guitar Society
1 hour of the city’s best young classical guitarists. Students of Calcutta School of Music and IGF Training Centre will  perform duos, trios and solo pieces in a diverse recital of classical guitar music.
19th June at 6:30 pm 
Felt Tip Pencils
A 4-piece rock n roll band with Ritam Bhattacharya (vocals), Srinjoy Ghatak (lead guitar), Rickraj Nath (guitars), Rudrajit Goswami (percussion). While they do some covers, their originals are catchy and interesting with lyrics that often speak about life in Calcutta.
WORLD MUSIC DAY, 21ST JUNE 2018

Various artists of different musical backgrounds will be taking the AF stage one after the other.
3:30- 5:30 pm
Students of Manovikas Kendra, supported by Remedia Trust will present TALTARANG (instrumental fusion) based on instruments such as Madol, Zembo, Congo, Bongo, Khol etc.
2: 30 pm 
UJAAN 
A Bengali folk fusion collective that sings simple, traditional songs with modern instrumentation.
6 pm- 7 pm 
Students of Alliance française du Bengale will be performing the musical “Le Roi Soleil“, directed by Sumana Bhattacharya
