Art Presentation on Magritte by Subrata Ghosh

“Visible things always hide other visible things,” as Magritte put it, implying that the landscape itself may be only a canvas  hiding something unknown beyond.

Rene Magritte (1898-1967) a Belgian born was an internationally acclaimed surrealist artist of all time, yet it was not until his 50s, when he was finally able to reach some form of fame and recognition for his work. He was the one who was able to connect a bridge towards the Post modernist land. Magritte, very humbly has shown us a completely different world which is very much set in our reality and belief.

This is an occasion to re discover his works once again at the completion of his 50th death anniversary.

Subrata Ghosh is an well known character in the field of contemporary Art, specially in West Bengal. Besides his Art practice he presents his views and research to the art lovers of this city and beyond. His series of lectures with visuals in Alliance Francaise were highly praised by the audience. He has achieved some prestigious awards and recognitions from various parts of the world including from UNESCO(Paris). He had done some significant interdisciplinary works and one of them was broad cast in the Radio Paris in the year 2000.

His presentation on Rene Magritte deals with a deeper psychological interpretations. Magritte’s visual journey is still so relevant in the present world.

Light Refreshments will be served post discussion.
