France – A world player in arts, design, science and technology, arguably Europe’s most innovative country along being well known for its Educational Expertise. Ranking at number three among the global top-three in innovation, it is home to numerous Nobel Laureates and Fields Medal winners, artists and thinkers. If someone wants to have some international quality exposure in the field of Teaching and education then France is the destination for them. In the year 2015, France made the announcement that it will attract more Indian students to its acclaimed institutes. Two years down the line, it seems all set to surpass its target of drawing 10,000 Indian students by 2020. The figure has already touched 7,000.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the largest country in the European Union in 2015, the French government told that more than 4,000 Indian students are already studying in France. We want these numbers to grow further. Our aim is to welcome 10,000 students to France by 2020. This is 50 times more than that of 20 years ago. But it’s still insufficient in terms of the quality of the relationship between the two countries.
To fulfil its commitment, the government has taken two major steps: Firstly, the work visa granted for those who finish their education there, was made valid for two years instead of one. In addition, there are chances to extend it even further. Secondly, the numbers of scholarships available have also gone up. This is very much clear from the fact that in the year 2016, 120 Indian students got Charpak Master’s Scholarship, while 370 secured other scholarships.
Many students who feel their first study destination should be the English-speaking countries such as the US and UK should know that language is not a barrier. Students from India and the world over can study in France in English- or French-medium institutions. If they study in French, then like any other French citizen in French state universities, students benefit from free tuition. They only have to pay for food, boarding and lodging, which are affordable.
Once they complete postgraduate studies, Indian students in France have a stay-back option. They have an advantage in terms of job opportunities too. There are also around a thousand French companies that seek skilled professionals in India, including CapGemini, Safran, Saint-Gobain, Renault, and Orange. In fact, CapGemini has more employees in India than in France.
France’s programme “Bonjour India” – now in its third edition from November 2017 to February 2018 – promotes and fosters creativity, innovation and partnership between both countries.
During Modi’s visit to France, the two countries agreed on allowing Indian students to a stay on in France two years. Applying to France is easy. Campus France has 11 offices offering free counselling to students and help with admission procedures, visa formalities, etc. They are located in the Alliance Françaises in the following cities: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Kochi, with two opening soon in Indore and Jaipur.
Thousands of students and professionals migrate to foreign shores every year in search of better opportunities. However, the true but bitter fact is the education of India is appraised in every nook and corner of this planet.
There are several options to take a distance course.
Note the difference between:
- A MOOC: Massive Online Open Course, free, available on a platform and with limited access duration. There may be a fee to pass your certification. A MOOC doesn’t grant a degree, it is an additional training on a precise topic.
- A SPOC: Small Private Open Course, a MOOC restricted to about 30 participants selected beforehand. A SPOC is more like a digital class, and is not free.
- A FOAD: Formation Ouverte à distance (Open Distance Training), offered by an institution, open to all, versatile both in pace and education planning, and not relying only on your attendance. A FOAD can grant a degree. If the training you are studying grants a degree, you will receive a student card and you must pay registration fees.
Here are several platforms and websites where you may find online and distance training offered by French institutions and/or in French.

23 students from city receive scholarships to join dream courses in France Chandigarh: Stepping closer to their Freudian dreams and aerospace fantasies, 23 students from the city landed scholarships here on Tuesday that will take them to different postgraduate courses in France. Most of the scholarship winners are engineering students, who received this foreign help during Chandigarh round of the ‘Beinvenue en France 2017’ pre-departure orientation session and award ceremony in 10 Indian cities between June 29 and July 11. Of the students, 15 won the Charpak scholarship for master’s programme, which carries a monthly stipend of 615 euros along with assisted accommodation.
Eight students get to study in French public universities free of cost. The interactive and instructive session educated the students about the visa application procedure, accommodation in France, and daily life in Europe, besides the French culture and language. “France attracts many Indian students every year for higher studies, and to take this number to 10,000, it offers a year’s extended stay for acquiring professional experience,” said Vidya Suresh, country manager of ESIGELEC (The Ecole superieure d’ingenieurs en genie electrique, a French school of engineers located in Rouen). The engineering and management students were positive about the decision to choose France for higher studies.
Robin Prinja, selected for Universite de Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, will study Freud Mechanism for a year. “This public university is one of the most prestigious in the world. It was to explore its culture that I chose France as my master’s course destination,” Prinja said. Arti Kalra, picked for Institut superieur de l’aeronautique et de l’esapace, Toulouse, said: “Being the hub of aerospace science, France is the best destination for my master’s programme in aerospace engineering.”
Ayush Jain, who won a Charpak scholarship for EDHEC Business School in Paris, said: “If you want a good cultural mix and global exposure, go to France.”
Rashika Jain, who got full tuition-fee waiver along with a monthly stipend of 615 euros under Charpak scholarship for master’s in aerospace engineering at Toulouse, said: “It is my childhood dream to become an aerospace engineer. I am lucky to pursue it through a prestigious university.” The selection was based on academic grades, skills, and talent.
The Financial Times, has placed EDHEC #1 in the world for its Master in Finance programme. EDHEC achieving the #1 position indicates its constant growth gaining seven places in 3 years. EDHEC ranked #8 in 2015 FT rankings, then #4 in 2016 and now #1, which ascertains its excellence in finance.
This top ranking underscores the excellence of EDHEC’s portfolio of programmes and especially the Master of Science in Financial Markets, commended through this ranking. The dimensions analysed by the Financial Times, particularly via a questionnaire sent to graduates, coincides with the pillars of the programme ‘international reach’ & ‘multicultural environment’ & ‘unrivalled experience’. (“Alumni Career Progress”, “School Diversity” & “International Experience and Reach” in the FT’s terms).
Indeed, International is at the forefront of EDHEC’s mission and translates at a programme level. 80% of our FE students find a job with an international dimension and over 1/2 student found their first job outside of their home country. EDHEC also delivers hands-on approach to study: one is placed in real life business situation which helps build the foundations for a sound future career path. This success is a result of high-impact strategy initiated several years ago by the School and which has entailed a disruptive policy in the international research field, executed in close proximity to businesses.
“We are very proud to see EDHEC internationally recognised as the world’s top business school for finance. Our original “EDHEC for Business” growth model, founded on academic excellence and close ties with businesses, has proved popular with the market for years, and our graduates are now among the most highly sought-after by financial institutions operating in the world’s leading financial centres”, explains Olivier Oger, Dean of EDHEC Business School.
Since Professor Noël Amenc’s creation of the EDHEC Risk Institute (ERI) in 2001, the School has become an academic reference within the financial industry. This centre of applied research focused on asset management is without equivalent worldwide and has spawned 2 new entities since its inception. The first, EDHEC Infra, is supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and has become the leading research team dedicated to infrastructure-project financing and risk assessment. The second, ERI Scientific Beta, based in London, Singapore, Nice, Paris, Boston and Tokyo, is now one of the world’s leading designers and producers of indices offering alternatives to traditional market indices. These 3 entities generate combined annual research revenues in excess of €15 million. They stem from the use of EDHEC’s research models and products by world-leading financial institutions such as Amundi, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Nomura and SG. The Scientific Beta indices are used to manage over €15 billion of assets by the world’s largest pension funds and sovereign funds. By promoting and exploiting its research in this way, EDHEC has a positive impact on the largest employers – who are also EDHEC’s clients – and helps create a preference on their part for EDHEC graduates.

EDUCATION AND FRENCH LANGUAGE The French Language, Education and Vocational Training (CLEF) service at Institut français India (IFI) has three main objectives, as defined by the French M inistry of External and European Affairs:
- International mobility: Cooperation in the field of education between France and India is embodied by the numerous school exchanges that have been established to meet the increasing demand of Indian schools. IFI also promotes international mobility through its two flagship programmes:
- The English Language Assistants Programme – In this programme, Indian students are sent to France to teach English in French schools as assistant English teachers for a period of 7 months.
- The French Language Tutors in India Programme – Under this programme, French university students are invited to teach French in Indian universities for a period of 9 months.
New Delhi: A total of 79 Indian students have been selected for the French Education Ministry’s English Language Assistants programme that will see participation of 60 countries. The programme will start in October 2017 and end in May 2018, according to a statement from the French Embassy and the Institut Français India (IFI) here on Thursday. “In the framework of their bilateral cooperation in education, France and India have agreed to support the mobility of students, encouraging the internationalisation of their higher education training courses,” it said.
Students taking part in this 20-year-old teaching programme will be assisting English language teachers in primary, secondary and higher secondary schools by offering them an understanding of the language throughout the whole academic year. The 79 students have been selected on the basis of their expertise in both French and English. “The programme provides a unique opportunity to Indian students who have already acquired a high level of French language competence and to have a first professional experience in the French academic milieu,” IFI Attache for Cooperation in Education Marie Doublier told iANS.

Extending this collaboration further, Schneider has now signed an MoU with these institutes to understand and prepare joint operations so as to meet milestones in establishing industry academic relations. As part of the MoU, both the Institutes and Schneider Electric will encourage interactions between the Engineers, Research fellows, faculty members and students of both the organizations.
“This MoU is in line with our vision to develop a globally competitive talent pool in India, armed with futuristic skill-sets aligned to the requirements of the fast evolving sectors like energy management and automation. With a deep understanding of the changing skills requirement of the industry, Schneider Electric is committed to support India in its human resources capability building initiative. Through these strategic partnerships, we aim to deliver the best of the training and skill development to accelerate transformation into the new-age opportunities in the energy sector,” said Chief Human Resources Officer Schneider Electric India, Rachna Mukherjee.
Under the MoU, Schneider Electric will recognize the Institutes as an “Training and education Partner”, supply lab equipment, assist the institutes in establishing and improvising world-class infrastructure pertaining to electrical, automation, energy management and Renewable Energy and its associated areas and assist in designing the layout of all labs/workshops that are required to deliver practical’s and project assistance.
